Walworth Front Doors

What's the story of the place where you live? Walworth Society are looking for volunteers to research the social and architectural histories of the wonderful homes in Walworth and to feature them. In this year's Walworth History Festival.

Take part in short guided research sessions, look at and Census
information and historical maps of the area to help us tell the story of
Walworth and the place where you live.
The research sessions will take place in July and August at Southwark
Local History Library and Archive, John Harvard Library, 211 Borough High
Street, SE1 1JA.

During the sessions, to help to the story of your home and street, we will be looking at:

  • Ancestry and Census data
  • Historical maps of local streets and the area
  • Photographs
  • Post Office directories
  • Original plans for the area's estates

Please let us know as soon as possible which of these dates you are available on, so we can organise resources. Of course, you can also do research in your own time too.

Also, please bring any photographs you have of your house, block, street or landing (with or without people) and any stories or other information that might be of interest.
