Teenager volunteer Duan is a regular face at Burgess Sports. He first came along to one of the holiday sports camps funded by Creation Trust, now he is helping the younger children to follow in his footsteps.
Duan joined Burgess Sports’ multi-sport programmes in 2011 at the age of 8 years old. He attended for four years as a regular participant. In 2015, at the age of 12 Duan asked if he could continue coming to the camps as a volunteer. This was a big step for Burgess Sports as he was their first young volunteer.
For three years, Duan has been a regular and committed young volunteer. His role has motivated other young people to follow his steps. He has talked about how the volunteering will be good for his CV but he has also developed maturity, organisational skills and the confidence to communicate with and organise activities for the younger children. In an average year he volunteers for over 200 hours!

"My son Duan started volunteering with Burgess Sports in the summer of 2015. First he did the summer camp and then, because he was motivated by the fulfilment of helping others,he decided to step up and volunteer whenever he was needed (half terms and Easter Holidays, Saturday mornings, Tiny Tigers) plus participating in various coaching courses."
"In this two years, Duan has grown to be a respectful, open and understanding boy. His self-motivation has inspired others his age to work hard to get the results they want. To work with younger kids has given him the opportunity to develop the leader he has in him."
