Horace Nelson

Personal problems had caused Horace to be out of work for sometime, robbing him of his confidence. He joined the SE17Working programme, which gave him the boost he needed to get back out there!

How long had you been out of work before you joined SE17Working?

I had been out of work for 4 years, after my grandmother passed, as it posed as a major blow to me and it took me a longer than I thought to get over it.

How did SE17Working help you?

It gave me confidence and brought me out of myself again.  I met others and could identify with other people in the group. We were all on a common ground.  You realise that you are not alone.  I did not know which way to turn.  I found it hard reaching out for help but SE17working was there.  They made me feel at ease.

What job did you find?

Weekend Operative in a local park

How do you feel now you are employed?

I felt really good, being out there with the public.

What advice would you give to others looking for work?

Keep on trying, and try to find a good programme  like SE17Working who will give you confidence and are welcoming.

What are your plans for the future?

I am having a few problems at the moment with my health but I am enrolled on the Healthy Living project as part of the WOW project.

It is building my strength so I hope that when I am fitter I will be able to take on more responsibilities.
